In Reason to Believe, Bruce Springsteen sings, “At the end of every hard-earned day / people find some reason to believe.” What’s your reason to believe?
The lyrics to Bruce Springsteen’s song are very accurate. Most people don’t realize that things that occur on a daily basis contribute to why we believe in something. I am a believer in God and everyday I come across a situation that proves to me that there is a God and that he is always looking out for us. I attend the University of Alabama and my freshman year a huge tornado hit the town of Tuscaloosa and destroyed everything and anyone in its path. It was truly devastating and so many people were left with absolutely nothing. My friend and I were cleaning up the ruble for anything important that someone might want, even just a photograph, and we came upon this one house where the family had lost everything they ever owned. They were looking for their dog, who was no where to be found after the tornado hit. We looked everywhere where the house once laid and even checked the local animal shelter. We finally decided to make signs for the family and passed them around but still heard nothing. We decided to post it on Facebook on a page for things that people were finding and looking for from the tornado. Well this one lady commented on the post for us to call her and she said I think I have the dog you are looking for. It turns out that their dog ended up being carried a couple miles away and this lady found him and was trying to find his owner the whole time. The moment the dog was reunited with the family you could tell that even though they had lost everything, being able to have their dog back was everything to them and gave them just the little bit of hope that they needed. Days like that, days full of hope are the exact reason as to why I believe. I know that God can’t control mother nature but he allows miracles to happen, which keep people believing and make them want to do the right thing throughout life.
